New York spot gold continued its rally Thursday, adding another $27.80 to reach $4,087.10 by the time North American stock markets closed. This is continued fallout from the midterm elections, results that sent oil sharply lower and eased the upward pressure on interest rates. (Mind you, can you find anyone whose address is not 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. who did not anticipate the result?)
Gold stocks aside, the markets took a hit today, sending the TSX Venture Exchange down 8.05 points to 806.32. The TSX gold index added 17.77 points to 862.82. Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) led a northward contingent, adding $4.63 to $77.39 on 1.24 million shares, but many precious metals miners lost ground. Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX) fell five cents to 70 cents on 2.21 million shares, and like most miners with a copper hue, Eros Copper Corp. (ERO) slid $3.74 to $39.30 on 2.08 million shares.
In the you're-not-losing-a-daughter, you're-gaining-a-son-in-law department, Benoit La Salle's Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) fell $1.39 to $34.42 on 1.44 million shares on word it is selling Azegour, its copper, tungsten and molybdenum project in the Western High Atlas region of Morocco. It is going to Dr. Marc-Antoine Audet's Sama Resources Inc. (SAMA) in exchange for 19.11 per cent of Sama's outstanding stock.
