West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery added $1.93 to $65.14 on the New York Merc, while Brent for April added $2.13 to $69.46 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $15.70 to WTI, down from a discount of $15.30. Natural gas for March added 15 cents to $3.46. The TSX energy index added 4.86 points to close at 341.86.
Oil sands giant Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) lost 85 cents to $72.00 on 18.5 million shares, after releasing its year-end financials. Analysts used those figures as a basis for predicting fourth quarter cash flow of $2.63 a share. The actual figure came in at $2.68 a share -- not a major difference, but it continues Suncor's trend of exceeding cash flow predictions, something it has done in 12 of the past 13 quarters.
