The S&P/TSX Cannabis Index added 1.86 to 40.37, while the CSE Composite Index added 3.38 to 274.39. It was a quiet Monday in the cannabis sector, with many investors fixing their attention south of the border. Rumours began floating days ago that this may be the week in which U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer finally files his large-scale cannabis legalization bill.

The bill, known as the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act (CAOA), first appeared in draft form in July of last year. It would lift the federal ban on cannabis and include measures aimed at criminal justice reform. Mr. Schumer and the bill's other backers, senators Cory Booker and Ron Wyden, have sifted through the comments on the draft version and are looking to introduce the final version this week, according to rumours reported by Bloomberg last Thursday. Mr. Wyden appeared to confirm the rumours in a subsequent statement to The Hill. "We're introducing it soon," he promised. He added that it will be "very similar" to last year's version but will also contain "very important changes."
