The S&P/TSX Cannabis Index lost a fraction to 32.96, while the CSE Composite Index added 3.98 to 200.84. South of the border, the Republican stalemate in the U.S. House of Representatives dragged into its third day. The party remains without a speaker after a dumbfounding 11 votes since Tuesday, including five today (as of this writing). This marks the longest speaker contest in 164 years. In Minnesota, two Democratic lawmakers have unveiled a bill to legalize recreational cannabis, with a committee hearing already scheduled for next Wednesday. Senator Lindsey Port, who is sponsoring the bill in the upper chamber, proclaimed in a press conference today, "We are ready to act." His co-sponsor in the lower chamber, Representative Zach Stephenson, vowed that 2023 will be "the year we legalize adult-use cannabis." They already have the support of Democratic Governor Tim Walz, who declared on Twitter that he is "ready to sign" the bill, just as soon as it lands on his desk.
