Vancouver businessman Arthur Griffiths has agreed to pay $30,000 to settle a case he faces from the B.C. Securities Commission for improperly raising money. The BCSC said that Mr. Griffiths was the chief executive officer of RoccaVerde Wellness Corp. in 2019 when it distributed securities while violating the prospectus requirement. The investors lost all of their money, according to the BCSC.

Mr. Griffiths, who is better known as a former owner of the Vancouver Canucks, agreed to pay the $30,000 as part of a settlement agreement that the BCSC released on Monday, Sept. 29. The case arises from money raised by RoccaVerde when it was a prospective cannabis company. According to the BCSC, the company issued shares to investors 10 times, raising $192,600 in total.

The problem, according to the BCSC, is that the company raised the money without having a prospectus and without having an exemption to the prospectus requirement. (In most instances, a company raising money in B.C. must file a prospectus. There are some exemptions, with the most common being for accredited investors and for friends and family.)

Ya know - sometimes shiny ass civil servants should actually chase actual scams - like the ones I’ve pointed out to them over the years - instead of looking for the Hollywood names. They are a fucking embarrassment.

Arthur Griffiths is a Hollywood name? He's pimping the FIFA World Cup coming to Vancouver, but the $600-million-plus cost will be another albatross around the necks of average British Columbians. "Yes, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will cost B.C. money. The province has released updated cost estimates ranging from $532 million to $624 million for hosting seven matches, a figure that includes upgrades to BC Place." "On Tuesday, the B.C. government released an updated cost estimate for Vancouver hosting seven World Cup games in 2026, with the tournament set to cost taxpayers up to $624 million.
