Vancouver securities lawyer Sam Cole has lost another legal battle with the Law Society of British Columbia over a suspension he received for professional misconduct with respect to a private placement from 2014. The Law Society said that Mr. Cole advised a client on a way to get around an insider restriction, having the client buy stock through an account in the name of his then-girlfriend. The case saw considerable back-and-forth, with the Law Society eventually ordering Mr. Cole to serve a six-month suspension.
The defeat for Mr. Cole is contained in a decision that the Court of Appeal for British Columbia released on Nov. 27, 2025. The decision upholds the six-month suspension (which the Law Society imposed after rejecting an earlier sanction that would have involved a four-month suspension and a $20,000 fine). Three appeal court judges have found that there was no error with the legal analysis that led to the suspension.
As with most appeal court decisions, the loss is heavily rooted in legalese. Mr. Cole had argued in favour of a shorter suspension, expressing concern about the effect on his law practice and his clients. He explained that he was a junior lawyer at the time of his misconduct and was working at a small firm with little support or guidance. He has since worked hard to rehabilitate himself and is at a larger firm where he is well supported, he said.

David Eby and his friends from the hood have taken over the Law Society of BC. Justice system in BC and Canada is now offically polictized for personal gains for a select few Canadians. Welcome to Canada all new immigrants.

All governments across the world cater to a select few in the economy. Only difference is in a Democracy/capitalism system we have a right to vote every four or five years. We need a political change in BC and Canada.

All governments across the world cater to a select few in the economy. We get the government we vote for. Foreign investment coming to Canada has dried up to a trickle. Foreign investment coming to BC is non-existent. Eby/Carney keep up the smoke and mirrors show of accounting. Simply capitalize the government operating cost to the capital projects and increase the overall debt to over 200 billion by end of 2026 in BC and approx 1.8 trillion Canada national debt. In 2028 election Eby/Carney claim you have balanced the operating budget and get another manadate from British Columbians/Canadians. Democracy/capitalism at it's finest.

"Foreign investment coming to Canada has dried up to a trickle. Foreign investment coming to BC is non-existent."
Depends on what you want, innit? If you're into foreignors owning the housing in Canada and BC, then you're correct, but that position is highly unpopular with most Canadians.
Foreign direct investment is still gung ho and, as the Stallantis fiasco shows, the federal and Ontario governments will go to the courts to recover funds given but not used.
