The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a mediocre 72-64-174 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose two points to 789. Jean-Raymond Boulle's -- now more than yesterday -- Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) closed unchanged at 4.5 cents on 77,000 shares. Yes, Ewan Mason is still chairman and chief executive officer, and he owns 1.15 million of Star Diamond's 768 million shares, but Mr. Boulle now holds nearly 195 million shares -- about one-quarter of the company.
Star Diamond has closed its 133.33-million-share placement with Mr. Boulle's Spirit Resources, completed at three cents per share, which put $4-million into the company's treasury. Mind you, Mr. Boulle gets more than $800,000 of that back, as he loaned that sum to Star Diamond late last year to tide it over while the company's shareholders and the regulators approved the big placement. They did, and Mr. Mason and Mr. Boulle wasted no time in completing the share sale.
