The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Thursday was a dreary 56-123-131 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell 29 points to 889. Dermot Desmond and Jonathan Comerford's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) lost one-half cent to 3.5 cents on 506,000 shares Wednesday on word of a leadership update. The company says that its president and chief executive officer for the past four years, Mark Wall, has resigned to pursue other opportunities.
That is often code for a company telling its CEO to "pack your bags and hit the road" -- an event that has occurred twice in the past seven years with Mountain Province. This time, however, there is a twist of uncertainty about what happened: Mr. Wall will remain on the job until mid-December to ensure a smooth transition. Mr. Wall arrived late in 2021, after Mountain Province said that it and Stuart Brown, then its president and CEO, had "reached a mutual decision" that Mr. Brown would depart the company. There was no talk of resignation, and Mr. Brown did not get to stay on for five more weeks, but he did agree to provide assistance to facilitate the transition.
