The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a rousing 133-56-121 as the TSX Venture Exchange added 13 points to 1,052. Mark Chalmers's Energy Fuels Inc. (EFR), a $19 stock on New Year's Eve, has been on a roll so far this year. It got as high as $27.14 yesterday, but word of an updated feasibility study of the company's Toliara rare earth project -- henceforth to be called Vara Mada -- cooled some of the enthusiasm, as the stock ended the day down 57 cents to $25.72 on 2.22 million shares.
The company credits the project, in southeastern Madagascar, as hosting a reserve of 904 million tonnes with an average heavy mineral grade of 6.1 per cent -- those minerals being led by ilmenite, at 73 per cent, zircon at 5.9 per cent, and rutile at 1 per cent. (The additional resource is far larger, although with a lower heavy mineral content, with an additional 485 million tonnes measured and indicated and 1.2 billion tonnes inferred.)
