The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Monday was a weak 69-103-138 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell 14 points to 924. Alphamin Resources Corp. (AFM) lost eight cents to $1.44 on 5.3 million shares in silence today. Silence is rarely golden in the mining sector but when you're mining a rich tin deposit in one of the darkest corners of the Dark Continent, it can be soothing. Alphamin has been racking up strong cash flow and paying dividends for years thanks to its (relatively) quiet operation at Bisie, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kristien Davenport's Vanadiumcorp Resource Inc. (VRB) was unchanged at nine cents on 29,000 shares on word that it has hired a company to run its exploration of the Lac Laura copper and gold project near Chapais, just southwest of Chibougamau in central Quebec. The company has been plodding along in the area at its Lac Dore vanadium, titanium and iron project for the better part of the past two decades, but its promotion has been stalled for most of that time as chief executive officers have come and gone -- more often than not aided by a not-so-gentle nudge.
