The critical and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a positive 85-74-161 as the TSX Venture Exchange added two points to 881. Kerem Usenmez's Volta Metals Ltd. (VLTA) lost two cents to 30 cents on 608,000 shares.

Volta has drilled a 165.3-metre interval grading 1.36 per cent total rare earth oxides and 81.3 grams per tonne of gallium oxide at its Springer project, near Sturgeon Falls in Northern Ontario. The zone, which began near surface, included a 165.3-metre midsection with 1.36 per cent total rare earth oxides and 81.3 grams of gallium oxide per tonne. In both cases, the company cheers, magnet rare earth oxides account for nearly one-quarter of the full amount.

A second hole did nearly as well as the first, with a 345.6-metre surface-based interval averaging 0.87 per cent total rare earth oxides and 67.6 grams of gallium oxide per tonne, with a proportion of magnet oxides comparable with the first test. The third new hole also hit thick mineralization -- a 351-metre surface-based zone -- but it graded just 0.36 per cent total rare earth oxides and 36.3 grams of gallium oxide per tonne.
