New York spot gold fell $2.40 Tuesday, closing at $2,329.20. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 3.06 points to 566.76 while the TSX gold index dropped 0.22 point to 316.63. Embattled Yukon gold miner Victoria Gold Corp. (VGCX) continues to slide amid uncertainty and concern about the extent of the environmental damage from the rock slide in the heap leach pad of its Eagle mine in west-central Yukon. Victoria, a $7 stock to start last week, slid another 21 cents to 85 cents on 6.52 million shares today. Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG) helped lead the advance. It rose 13 cents to $2.40 on 133,000 shares today.

Ian Cockerill's Endeavour Mining PLC (EDV) rose four cents to $28.94 on 902,000 shares on word of its first gold pour at the Lafigue mine in Ivory Coast last week. The event occurred just 21 months after construction started at the new mine, a build completed ahead of schedule and within budget -- no surprise, the company enthuses, as its four other mines built in West Africa over the past decade were also completed on schedule and within budget.
