New York spot gold lost $23.20 Friday, closing at $2,682.90. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 4.16 points to 609.24 while the TSX gold index lost 2.57 points to 369.83. Most Canadian listed gold miners lost ground today. New Found Gold Corp. (NFG), up on word of a coming resource estimate and dream sheet yesterday, lost 24 cents to $3.05 on 539,000 shares today. The updates are not expected until next spring. Golds with a hefty copper component took the hardest hits today: Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (IVN) was off $1.36 to $18.59 on 4.02 million shares while First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (FM) slid $1.40 to $19.09 on 3.66 million shares.

Investors sent Silvercrest Metals Inc. (SIL) up $1.40 yesterday, but today they took back seven cents to $14.33 on 707,000 shares. There still is no news. On the other hand, the market gleaned good news from the third quarter report from Renaud Adams's Iamgold Corp. (IMG). The company expects its Cote gold mine in Ontario will achieve 90-per-cent throughput by the end of the year. That, says Mr. Adams, president and chief executive officer, "will position [Cote] for a significant 2025 as throughput rates ramp-up to steady state." Iamgold jumped 50 cents to $7.89 on 5.35 million shares on the news.
