New York spot gold slipped $12.30 Wednesday, ending the afternoon at $3,367.10. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.93 points to 786.61 while the TSX gold index added another 6.51 points to 559.26. Gold miners carried on with Tuesday's big gain. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) rose 52 cents to $10.81 on 6.11 million shares while SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) leapt $3.06 to $20.96 on 1.9 million shares. Not everyone was happy: Taseko Mines Ltd. (TKO) fell six cents to $4.17 on 1.17 million shares.
Geoff Hampson's Soma Gold Corp. (SOMA) jumped six cents to $1.21 on 509,000 shares on word that its sale of 13.04 million shares at $1.15 apiece is fully subscribed ahead of schedule. The $15-million financing is expected to close in a day or two. There is no word yet whether the underwriters will be exercising their greenshoe option allowing them to buy an additional $1.5-million of stock at the same price.
