New York spot gold fell $47.80 Monday, hitting the afternoon siesta at $3,349.80. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 6.02 points to 793.24 while the TSX gold index fell 1.53 points to 565.61. Most Canadian-listed gold miners moved lower today. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM) led the retreat as it lost $4.26 to $134.40 on 1.36 million shares. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) tagged along, dropping $1.46 to $77.45 on 1.14 million shares. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) bucked the trend, adding 17 cents to $7.96 on 878,000 shares.
Matti Talikka's Aurion Resources Ltd. (AU) rose four cents to 84 cents on 103,000 shares on word that it has drilled a 32.55-metre interval grading 4.42 grams of gold per tonne in the Kaaresselka area of its Risti project in northern Finland. The hit came from one of 10 holes testing the Vanha target and while a few others yielded comparable grades, they were over narrower intervals. A second hole managed 4.29 grams per tonne across 4.45 metres and a third mustered 4.69 grams per tonne over a three-metre interval.
