New York spot gold rose $10.50 on Friday, pausing at $3,758.70. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 13.77 points to 933.95 and the TSX gold index added 15.40 points to 724.63. Most Canadian precious metals miners moved higher today but Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX) was not among them: It lost five cents to 51 cents on 14.62 million shares in silence. Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM), on the other hand, leapt 46 cents to $7.14 on 2.04 million shares without prodding from news.
Benoit La Salle's Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA), a $17 stock on Tuesday, slid as low as $11.95 yesterday as word spread that Blue Orca Capital, an activist short seller, had accused the company of fabricating as many as 50 million ounces of "phantom silver" at its Zgounder mine in Morocco in a 2021 resource update. Today, Aya responded, citing "numerous inaccuracies and mischaracterizations" as it "strongly refuted the misleading and inaccurate claims" from Blue Orca.
