New York spot gold rose again on Wednesday, hitting tea time at $3,864.80, up $7.10 on the day. The TSX Venture Exchange added 10.63 points to 958.47 while the TSX gold index added 9.78 points to 742.40. Most precious metals miners gained ground today, so nod in condolence to shareholders of SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM), which lost 67 cents to $33.31 on 871,000 shares. Today was cheerier at Silvercorp Metals Inc. (SVM), which added 28 cents to $9.06 on 3.58 million shares.
Well, wasn't that pleasing: Shareholders of Dr. Rob Carpenter's Prospector Metals Corp. (PPP) woke up today to find their stock soaring on new assays from the company's ML project, in the Tombstone district of Yukon. The latest hole produced a 44-metre near-surface intercept averaging 13.79 grams of gold and 38.1 grams of silver per tonne along with 1.84 per cent copper. The deepest 24.65 metres were the richest: They averaged 21.9 grams of gold and 25.6 grams of silver per tonne, plus 1.144 per cent copper. (Yes, the uppermost 14 metres graded just 4.6 grams of gold and 74.2 grams of silver per tonne, but with a hefty 3.76 per cent copper.)
