New York spot gold moved higher Thursday, adding $95.10 to reach $4,024.20 by the afternoon pause. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 9.81 points to end the day at 953.32, while the TSX gold index added -- wow! -- 19.40 points to 697.83. Meridian Mining UK Societas (MNO) had a good day, adding 10 cents to $1.22 on 1.13 million shares on word it has a preliminary licence for Cabacal in Brazil. Aris Mining Corp. (ARIS) had a spring in its step, adding $1.15 to $14.17 on 1.7 million shares.

Alamos Gold Inc. (AGI) did not have a good day, falling $1.01 to $43.43 on 6.1 million shares on its third quarter report. John McCluskey, president and chief executive officer, says that the company is revising its production guidance lower because of problems at its Magino mill around the end of September, and because of weaker underground grades at Island Gold -- the result of "a seismic event in October."
