New York spot gold rallied strongly early Tuesday, then tailed off sharply in the midmorning before ending the session at $4,125.80, up $10.90. The TSX Venture Exchange, strong Monday, was 2.42 points weaker today, ending the day at 905.82 points. The TSX gold index did its best to follow bullion -- up, down and around -- ending the day up 8.70 points to 740.63. Dynacor Group Inc. (DNG) added 14 cents to $4.78 on 195,000 shares. Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) helped lead a cadre of Canadian golds lower today, dropping 24 cents to $11.78 on 504,000 shares.
Benoit La Salle's Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) lost 16 cents to $15.11 on 1.93 million shares, but it had news in the form of a third quarter report. The company cheers "record silver production" at 1.35 million ounces, more than double the rate a year ago thanks to a new plant at its Zgounder operation in Morocco. "We are executing on all fronts," gushed Mr. La Salle, president and chief executive officer, cheering that the Zgounder ramp-up is nearly complete and its mill is running at a steady state.
