New York spot gold ended its week on a dour note, sliding $92.40 to $4,077.90 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange had a tough day as well, at least at first, dropping 9.66 points to close at 879.88 while the TSX gold index lost 5.5 points to 742.59. Most Canadian golds moved lower today. Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS) slid $3.46 to $40.26 on 425,000 shares while Jaguar Mining Inc. (JAG) lost 25 cents to $6.06 on 508,000 shares. Barrick Mining Corp. (ABX) fared better, adding 89 cents to $52 on 16.98 million shares.
Paul Andre Huet's Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) lost 29 cents to $5.40 on 3.34 million shares, but it had news. Yesterday, Americas fell 48 cents to $5.69 on 3.53 million shares on word it is buying the Crescent gold mine in Idaho for $65-million (U.S.), agreeing to acquire its owner, Crescent Silver LLC, for $20-million (U.S.) in cash and $45-million (U.S.) of stock valued at $4 (U.S.) per share. (Naturally, with Americas Gold conceding that its stock was worth only $5.60 Canadian, the market tagged along.)
