New York spot gold oscillated like a high-pitched tuning fork today, eventually settling at $4,064.20, up $12.20 on the day. The TSX Venture Exchange added 5.59 points to 854.76 while the TSX gold index gained 7.46 points to 718.49. Some precious metals miners did well today. New Gold Inc. (NGD) added seven cents to $9.51 on 3.93 million shares and West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) added three cents to 84 cents on 3.02 million shares, but others had a gloomier end to the week. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (WDO) dropped 19 cents to $19.73 on 1.98 million shares and McEwen Inc. (MUX) fell 60 cents to $22.60 on 200,000 shares.
Jamie Beck's Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) jumped $3.58 to $107.76 on 901,000 shares on word that it has drilled a 5.2-metre near-surface interval grading 491.62 grams of gold and 182.55 grams of silver per tonne at its Fruta del Norte project in southeastern Ecuador. Most of the gold sat within a 0.95-metre subinterval that returned 2,286.1 grams of gold and 728.4 grams of silver per tonne.
