New York spot gold had a great day today, adding $114.40 to reach $4,444.70 by the afternoon break. The TSX Venture Exchange surged 27.78 points to 1,020.69 and the TSX gold index leapt 25.79 points to 843.85. Canadian gold miners bounded northward with bullion, with Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) adding $1.07 to $13.48 on 4.85 million shares. McEwen Inc. (MUX) also did well, gaining $1.42 to $27.05 on 284,000 shares. Robex Resources Inc. (RBX) was a laggard, closing unchanged at $5.255 on 103,000 shares, but remember its stock is tied to Australia-based Predictive Discovery Ltd.
News was in short supply today as promoters slowly ramped up for a new year on the hustings. Hemdat Sawh's Lavras Gold Corp. (LGC) rose seven cents to $3.47 on 536,000 shares, following word that new assays show "broad continuous zones of mineralization" at its Fazenda-Butia project in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Ten of the 13 new holes were completed in the Butia deposit, while three tested Fazenda, a newer discovery nearby.
