New York spot gold retreated today after another bull run carried it to $4,500 this week, dropping $41.70 to sit at $4,452.40 at the afternoon respite. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.24 points to 1,036.18 and the TSX gold index lost 4.17 points to 878.06 -- both indices recovering from a tough morning. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) was strong, adding 48 cents to $7.79 on 7.39 million shares, leading a few Canadian golds higher.
Many Canadian gold miners stayed their southbound course -- the only question is whether the journey was a short island hop or a transoceanic adventure. Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) was among those venturing farther afield, as it fell $2.18 to $39.98 on one million shares. Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) kept it company, falling $1.04 to $13.79 on 19 million shares, and Silver X Mining Corp. (AGX) lost seven cents to 97 cents on 4.24 million shares.
