Another day, another leap: New York spot gold added another -- oh good grief! -- $207.20 on Wednesday, taking its afternoon break at $5,386.80. Bullion topped $5,000 just three days ago and it is already well over one-third of the way to $6,000. The TSX Venture Exchange added 5.23 points to 1,148.10, while the TSX gold index jumped 30.15 points to 1,058.07. Starcore International Mines Ltd. (SAM) rose 16 cents to $1.48 on 1.82 million shares and Orosur Mining Inc. (OMI) added six cents to 72 cents on 1.1 million shares to lead the northward march. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) went the other way, dropping 24 cents to $12.54 on 4.12 million shares.
Fernando Ganoza's Atico Mining Corp. (ATY) rose 4.5 cents to 39 cents on 1.78 million shares on word that it has drilled multiple high-grade intercepts at its El Roble mine in Colombia. The headline hit, which spanned 10.2 metres, ran 6.26 per cent copper and 8.5 grams of gold per tonne. There were plenty of other noteworthy encounters in the latest 21 holes, including 8.72 grams of gold per tonne and 5.94 per cent copper across 5.65 metres, and 9.93 per cent copper and 2.56 grams of gold per tonne over 7.3 metres.
