New York spot gold continued to slide lower Friday, ending the week down another $151.90 to $4,496.80 -- ending a five-day stretch in which it had been as high as $5,040, as low as $4,485 and a far cry from the high of $5,602 reached in late February. The TSX Venture Exchange lost another 25.04 points to 911.53 today, while the TSX gold index dropped 29.27 points to 782.49.

Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today. Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) lost 65 cents to $11.29 on 9.02 million shares and Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM) fell $9.30 to $157.08 on 3.34 million shares. Serabi Gold PLC (SBI), on the other hand, added 27 cents to $4.88 on 165,000 shares. All three moved in silence today.

New Gold Inc. (NGD), down 70 cents to $11.77 on 16.31 million shares, is about to trade its last. The company says that its transaction with Coeur Mining Inc. (CDE) has closed, completing that company's acquisition of New Gold through a stock swap that saw New Gold's shareholders get 0.4959 of a Coeur share for each of their own. Coeur, as a bit of a sop for its Canadian shareholders, applied for a TSX listing: It began trading Monday, and today Coeur lost 87 cents to $24.12 on 153,000 shares.
