New York spot gold rose $50.80 to $4,840.10 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 11.32 points to 1,055 while the TSX gold index gained 29.76 points to 976.98. Most precious metals miners with Canadian listings gained ground today. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM) added $10.23 to $208.71 on 1.19 million shares and Novagold Resources Inc. (NG) rose $1.09 to $14.97 on 1.22 million shares to help lead the way.

David Wolfin's Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (ASM) rose 78 cents to $10.62 on 2.57 million shares today as word of a maiden reserve estimate for its La Preciosa and Avino projects in Mexico got around. In all, the calculation lists 27.19 million tonnes grading 109 grams of silver and 0.41 gram of gold per tonne plus 0.31 per cent copper, good for 356,000 ounces of gold and 95 million ounces of silver atop 85 million pounds of copper.

Michael Michaud's RPX Gold Inc. (RPX) lost one-half cent to 17.5 cents on 2.28 million shares. The company is seeking $11-million through a six-option private placement. Investors can buy regular shares at 17 cents apiece, either with or without one-half of a warrant attached. They also have the options to buy flow-through shares at 23.8 cents each -- again with or without one-half of a warrant attached. Finally, they can buy tranche II flow-through shares at 20.4 cents each -- by now you get the pattern if not the drift -- either with or without one-half of a warrant attached.
