New York spot gold dropped $21.20 Tuesday, taking a break at $4,713.30. The TSX Venture Exchange added 12.13 points to 1,018 while the TSX gold index lost 2.21 points to 942.87. Mineros SA (MSA) helped lead the retreat, as it lost 30 cents to $5.39 on 523,000 shares. Galiano Gold Inc. (GAU) kept it company, dropping 10 cents to $3.56 on 902,000 shares. Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS) went the other way, adding $2.03 to $57.13 on 571,000 shares.
Gerard Bond's Oceanagold Corp. (OGC) also did well, but it was driven by news. The company has new assays from its Haile mine in South Carolina, as its resource conversion and exploration drill program continues. The latest hits include a 15.5-metre intercept in the Horseshoe underground zone, which graded 30.64 grams of gold per tonne. A 30.5-metre strike in a second hole graded 13.86 grams per tonne.
Several other holes into Horseshoe also did well, as did several resource conversion holes that probed the Ledbetter underground zone. Further, Oceanagold cheered a high-grade strike from initial drilling in the Clydesdale zone, which returned 15.81 grams per tonne over 14.5 metres. Investors were also cheerful, as Oceanagold jumped $1.95 to $46.67 on 1.51 million shares today.
