New York spot gold lost another $83.10 Tuesday, taking its afternoon break at $4,482.30. The TSX Venture Exchange slid 31.58 points to 957.25 while the TSX gold index fell 32.44 points to 823.25. Both indices had handily topped 1,100 points in late winter, when bullion was as high as $5,400.
And so, precious metals miners had another tough day today despite having no news. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA) slid $3.84 to $22.63 on 6.46 million shares, while Endeavour Silver Corp. (EDR) lost $1.15 to $12.34 on 3.07 million shares. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) took a harder hit, sliding $1.19 to $7.77 on 4.02 million shares, but worse yet was Chesapeake Gold Corp. (CKG), which lost $1.26 to $3 on 438,000 shares, also in silence.
A first set of assays from drilling at its recently acquired Casa Berardi project in Quebec did little to bolster Patrick Downey's Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE). It lost eight cents to $2.28 on 2.97 million shares on news that one of the new holes returned 16.1 grams of gold per tonne across 6.7 metres. Another hole hit double digits, with 11.97 grams per tonne across a 3.5-metre interval, while five other hits warranted an extra splash of bold black ink across the highlight reel.
