New York spot gold added $22 to $4,330.60 on Tuesday. The TSX Venture Exchange added 6.12 points to 985.94 while the TSX gold index gained 21.02 points to 866.74. Most precious metals miners advanced today, with SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) carrying on with a run that saw it advance from $34.16 on Thursday to close yesterday at $40.45, a gain of $6.29. Today, it added another $4.13, ending the day at $44.58 on 996,000 shares.

It took nearly two weeks, but Stephen Kenwood and James Mackie's Majestic Gold Corp. (MJS) has responded to a request by shareholder Fan Zhong Kong to hold its annual meeting as soon as possible, to allow shareholders to "voice their opinions of the board." Mr. Kong is particularly disgruntled with the company's plan to raise $50-million by selling 384.6 million shares at 13 cents apiece -- a price that he says values the company's market capitalization at just 57 per cent of the cash and equivalents on its balance sheet at the end of March.
