New York spot gold lost $80.80 to $4,048.70 on Thursday, having apparently grown fond of its perch just above the $4,000 mark. The TSX Venture Exchange, on the other hand, has yet to find a suitable nest, having zigzagged steadily lower since topping 1,177 points early this year. Today it dropped 7.26 points to 874.09. The TSX gold index, which dropped 13.95 points to 746.53 today, has also been meandering lower from its 1,114-point high, set in early March. Aya Gold & Silver Corp. (AYA) fell today, dropping $1.35 to $28.06 on 2.2 million shares in silence, while West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) added one cent to 73 cents on 1.82 million shares.

Paul Andre Huet's Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) rolled out its production data for the second quarter today and Mr. Huet, chairman and chief executive officer, rolled out a barrel of enthusiasm to accompany the details. Puffy adjectives and glowing praise flowed like a mountain creek after a downpour, but the usual challenges nibbled at the edges of his enthusiasm. And so, Americas Gold and Silver lost 16 cents to $5.71 on 2.99 million shares today.
