New York spot gold added $24 to $4,075.60 Monday, as bullion keeps to its recent narrow range. The TSX Venture Exchange added 19.11 points to 887.73, while the TSX gold index rose 5.48 points to 754.18. Most precious metals miners kept close to home as well. Equinox Gold Corp. (EQX) did add 34 cents to $13.42 on 7.23 million shares today, while DPM Metals Inc. (DPM) fell $1.40 to $51.05 on 1.86 million shares.
It was a good-news-bad-news day for Adam Lundin and Jack Lundin's -- what else -- Lundin Mining Corp. (LUN). The company revealed last week that heavy rain and snow was proving a challenge at its two mines in the mountains of Chile. Today, the company said that the heavy rain at its Candelaria mine had passed and mining has resumed. With the mill operating using stockpiled ore through the storm, there was no real impact on the company's production.
At Caserones, however, heavy snow knocked out power nine days ago and the mine is still in the dark. With two main power lines out, crews have been mobilized and are working to repair the damaged towers. Full restoration and a gradual restart of operations at Caserones is anticipated to take two to three weeks. Critical site infrastructure is being supported by backup generators, but operations are on hold. And so, stay tuned: Lundin Mining dropped 25 cents to $35.69 on 3.1 million shares today.
