Well, when it goes, it goes hard: New York spot gold leapt $168.50 to $4,245.10 Wednesday, its highest point since the dying days of spring. The TSX Venture Exchange surged another 24.94 points to 923.83, while the TSX gold index leapt 55.06 points to 826.95 as precious metals miners had another strong day. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) surged $20.42 to $232.25 on 3.76 million shares while Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) climbed $5.74 to $50.47 on 1.72 million shares. Those losing ground were as rare as gold mines, but New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) managed one of the smaller gains today, adding 11 cents to $2.16 on 3.49 million shares.

Louis Castro and Brad George's Orosur Mining Inc. (OMI) struggled to gain altitude despite having news. Orosur added one-half cent to 28 cents on 218,000 shares as six new holes hit surface-based mineralization in the Pepas area of its Anza project in Colombia. The headline hole returned 5.77 grams of gold per tonne across 10.2 metres. Another mustered 1.77 grams per tonne over nearly 20 metres and a third produced 2.03 grams per tonne over 15 metres. Chronology was apparently important to Orosur -- it listed its three best holes at the base of its highlight list -- so perhaps some investors shrugged off the results.
