New York spot gold edged $9.90 higher Tuesday, taking a break at $4,660.50. The TSX Venture Exchange rose 17 points higher to 1,011 while the TSX gold index gained 20.31 points, ending the day at 1,044. Most precious metals miners gained ground. Americas Gold and Silver Corp. (USA) added 30 cents to $7.75 on 2.83 million shares today, but it had plenty of company. One of its silent fellow travellers was Orezone Gold Corp. (ORE), which added 12 cents to $2.99 on 6.35 million shares.
Eric Sprott's New Found Gold Corp. (NFG) was strong, adding 19 cents to $2.81 on 2.07 million shares, but it had news. The company graduates to the TSX tomorrow, adopting a new ticker. (Be sure to swap out NFG for NFGC today, Mr. Shareholder, lest you forget and panic tomorrow at the sight of "defunct" appearing on your portfolio.) At this point, shareholders have come to expect most anything -- especially those who paid as much as $13.50 for a share five years ago, during New Found Gold's honeymoon phase.
