New York spot gold fell $85.10 Thursday, taking its break at $4,315.70. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 26.10 points to 930.88, while the TSX gold index dropped 27.52 points to 948.78. Most precious metals miners were southbound today, some moving briskly. Capstone Copper Corp. (CS) dropped $1.49 to $14.53 on 8.73 million shares and Ero Copper Corp. (ERO) kept it company, falling $4.49 to $48.37 on 984,000 shares. Lundin Gold Inc. (LUG) had a tough day, falling $3.82 to $92.75 on 626,000 shares, but Mineros SA (MSA) was in the green, adding 11 cents to $8.91 on 566,000 shares.

Not even good news could save most miners: Shane Williams's West Red Lake Gold Mines Ltd. (WRLG) fell five cents to 82 cents on 2.69 million shares despite word that it has drilled a 1.5-metre interval grading 16.16 grams of gold per tonne at the old Starratt-Olsen mine. The old mine is barely one kilometre southwest of the company's Madsen mine, near Red Lake in Northwestern Ontario. The assays from the first five of 12 holes drilled at Starratt-Olsen also produced a 1.5-metre intercept that ran 10.94 grams per tonne.
