New York spot gold rose Friday, ending the week at $4,284.20, up $10.40 on the day. The TSX Venture Exchange added 7.10 points to 921.01, while the TSX gold index reclaimed 5.65 points to 936.31. Most precious metals miners moved higher today. Oh, Altius Minerals Corp. (ALS) did lose 45 cents to $66.78 on 182,000 shares and Trekor Metals Ltd. (TKO) did slide 44 cents to $12.20 on 2.8 million shares, but they were the outliers. Aya Gold & Silver Inc. (AYA), which added 77 cents to $40.34 on 1.03 million shares, helped lead the northward drive.

Tara Christie's Banyan Gold Corp. (BYN) had a good day, rising six cents to $1.98 on 3.71 million shares, but it had news. The company is selling 10 million shares to Franco-Nevada Corp. (FNV) as part of the private placements it launched earlier this week. Banyan is seeking $58-million in the placements, in which it is selling 29 million shares at $2 apiece. Franco-Nevada is willing to invest $20-million in Banyan and its Yukon gold projects -- and investors in the market were eager to tag along.
