The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Wednesday was a weak 62-104-144 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell fractionally to 612. Adam Lundin and Eira Thomas's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) fell 1.5 cents to 45 cents on 161,000 shares.

Blake Hylands's Lithium Ionic Corp. (LTH) jumped 14 cents to $2.69 on 442,000 shares. The company has drilled a 14-metre interval averaging 1.31 per cent lithium oxide at its Bandeira project in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Several other holes in the program also returned noteworthy grades -- with two topping 2 per cent lithium oxide -- across worthwhile intervals.

Mr. Hylands, chief executive officer, cheers that drilling at Bandeira has identified an impressive number of spodumene-bearing pegmatites at shallow depths, and with grades consistent with neighbouring operations. Lithium Ionic does have some well-endowed neighbours: Bandeira is just 500 metres south of the Cachoeira lithium mine and about 700 metres north of the large Barreiro deposit that is being worked by Sigma Lithium Corp. (SGML: $55.05).
