The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was an upbeat but slow 84-52-179 as the TSX Venture Exchange added three points to 579. Ewan Mason's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) rose one-half cent to seven cents on 178,000 shares. The wait goes on for release of an update for a now nine-year-old resource estimate covering the Star and Orion South kimberlites on Star Diamond's Fort a la Corne diamond project. The update had been expected by the end of June, so perhaps Star's crew is just putting the finishing touches on the document.
Stephen Stares's Benton Resources Inc. (BEX) lost one cent to 16 cents on 211,000 shares. Benton cheers that it continues to intercept massive sulphide rock at its Great Burnt deposit in central Newfoundland in what is now its third phase of drilling. Ten holes are now completed in the program and seven of the tests hit massive sulphide. Assays are still pending, although the company did applaud gold hits from trenching in the South Pond area to tide it over.
