New York spot gold rose $1.80 to $1,963.50 on Tuesday while the TSX Venture Exchange rose 2.69 point to 612.58. The TSX gold index lost ground, falling 0.16 point to close at 295.51. Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) fell 16 cents to $22.94 on 5.97 million shares, in one of the larger drops, and SSR Mining Inc. (SSRM) kept it company with a 19-cent drop to $19.84 on 370,000 shares. Neither company had news, nor did Karora Resources Inc. (KRR), which went the other way, adding 37 cents to $4.81 on 1.72 million shares.

Among those with news today was David Greenway's Recharge Resources Ltd. (RR), which added 2.5 cents to 29 cents on 401,000 shares. Recharge has the rest of its assays from spring drilling at its Brussels Creek gold-copper-palladium project, near Kamloops in British Columbia. The best hit was a 3.5-metre near-surface encounter that averaged 5.08 grams of gold per tonne in one of three holes drilled in the 900-metre program. There was no mention of assays from the two other holes -- never a good sign.
