Seyedfarbod Sabzevari, one of those charged in the United States for insider trading in Vancouver-Seattle biopharmaceutical listing Chinook Therapeutics Inc., has asked the judge to suppress some of the evidence against him, claiming that he was interviewed after two investigators arrived at his home when he had consumed a "significant amount of marijuana." He says that in his "panicked state," he was concerned that the investigators would shoot his dog. He does not say what he told investigators.

The request from Mr. Sabzevari comes with federal prosecutors in New Jersey claiming that he was part of a group that realized $600,000 in gains from a $3.2-billion takeover offer made by Novartis AG in 2023. (All figures are in U.S. dollars.) Mr. Sabzevari, who also goes by the name "Fabio," bought options and shares in Chinook in the days and weeks before the deal became public, the government says. He was arrested on May 28, 2025, and pleaded not guilty.

The details of Mr. Sabzevari's interview (or interrogation, as he calls it) are set out in a declaration filed on Oct. 3, 2025. Mr. Sabzevari describes how two investigators arrived at his California home on March 4, 2025. On that day, he had been consuming marijuana from 8 a.m. until the investigators arrived.
