The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that with a fresh round of U.S. tariffs set to hit the world Wednesday, the United States Trade Representative faced pushback from lawmakers worried about the fallout from President Donald Trump's efforts to realign global trade. An Associated Press dispatch to the Post says that Jamieson Greer faced questions from the Senate Finance Committee about how Trump's so-called "reciprocal" tariffs have sent markets into a tailspin. Mr. Greer says the tariffs are necessary to address a national emergency on manufacturing and to reduce trade deficits. Canada is being hit by automobile, steel and aluminum tariffs, and still faces the threat of economywide fentanyl-related tariffs. Mr. Greer told senators that most Canadian imports that comply with the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade agreement are still not being hit with tariffs. "It seems like we've decided to begin a trade war on all fronts," said Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina. He said he wanted to know who in the Trump administration he should hold responsible -- and "choke" -- if the tariffs fail and Americans suffer from higher prices and slower economic growth. "I wish you well," he said. "But I am skeptical."
