The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, May 10, edition that Scotia Capital analyst Mario Saric cut his share target for Brookfield Asset Management to $44.50 from $47 following quarterly results that had him reducing his earnings expectations for the company (all figures U.S.). The Globe's Darcy Keith writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Saric says in a note: "We maintain our 'sector outperform' rating but our key estimates drop 6 per cent to 7 per cent, post a Q1 that stalled a bit on growth. Unlike the share price response to Q4 results (overly punitive), we view Thursday's 1.6-per-cent share price decline (vs. -0.2 per cent for U.S. peers) as reasonable given our estimate revisions, but also the short-term focus markets seem to have these days. Net-net, no change to our positive thesis insofar as we think Brookfield Asset Management is attractive for income and growth investors alike, even if Q1 growth took a breather." The Globe reported on Nov. 8 that Mr. Saric continued to rate Brookfield "sector outperform." The shares could then be had for $30.75. The Globe reported on Feb. 9 that RBC analyst Geoffrey Kwan had reaffirmed his "outperform" recommendation for Brookfield when it was worth $40.37.
