The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, July 15, edition that Canaccord Genuity has hired veteran mining banker Kevin Carter from Cormark Securities, which is in talks for a sale to ATB Financial. The Globe's Andrew Willis and Jameson Berkow write that on Monday, Canaccord announced that Mr. Carter will join as a managing director after five years at Cormark and a decade at another investment bank. "Kevin's appointment strengthens our position in metals and mining finance," said Jason Melbourne, head of capital markets Canada at Canaccord. "His success and sector expertise will enhance our global mining franchise." Mr. Carter will join Canaccord after a gardening leave this summer, a common practice in banking to avoid conflicts of interest. He is leaving Cormark, which is in talks for a potential sale to ATB Financial after searching for a partner or buyer for two years. He is the third employee to leave Cormark recently, following Lea Matulovic and Liam Dotchison, who moved to Raymond James and Maple Rock Partners. Two senior Cormark bankers left the company last year: Alfred Avanessy joined Desjardins after eight years leading Cormark's investment banking group, and former CEO Chris Shaw joined Raymond James.
