The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, June 18, edition that Corus Entertainment is in the midst of a leadership change after losing several major Warner Bros. Discovery lifestyle television channels to Rogers Communications. A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe reports that Corus announced that Doug Murphy is retiring from the top job, and Troy Reeb and John Gossling have been appointed as co-chief executive officers effective immediately. On June 7, Corus revealed that it will lose the rights to key brands such as HGTV, Food Network, Cooking Channel, Magnolia Network and OWN by the end of the year. As a result, Corus's stock price has declined significantly. This loss is part of a longer decline for Corus as broadcasters, especially independent ones, struggle to adapt to new streaming models. Corus shares finished Monday at 17.5 cents, well below the more than $6 it traded at in mid-2021 and the more than $25 they reached in 2014. The new co-CEO appointments are meant to reflect a forward focus on managing through a challenging environment. Board chair Heather Shaw expressed confidence in the ability of the co-CEOs to guide Corus through the evolving regulatory and competitive landscape.
