The Financial Post reports in its Thursday edition that over a dozen Canadian oil patch executives have signed an open letter urging federal leaders to declare a Canadian energy crisis and designate key projects as "national interest" to expedite the expansion of oil and natural gas infrastructure. The Post's Meghan Potkins writes that they called for Ottawa to use emergency powers to overhaul regulations and approve major projects, such as new pipelines and LNG terminals, within six months. The letter emphasized the importance of utilizing Canada's energy resources for national sovereignty, global influence and economic competitiveness. It also recommended repealing the federal industrial carbon tax, advocating for provincial governments to set their own carbon regulations, indicating a shift in the sector's stance on carbon pricing. Signatories to the letter included the chief executive officers of Canada's major oil and gas producers, Canadian Natural Resources, Suncor Energy, Cenovus Energy and Imperial Oil, as well as the heads of the four largest pipeline companies, including Enbridge and TC Energy. TC Energy CEO Francois Poirier said on Wednesday, "The federal government does not have the right policies."
