The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that numerous countries and individuals are currently under sanctions, making it challenging to keep track of the situation. The Globe's Gordon Pape writes that the three major countries impacted are Russia, Iran and North Korea. This complicated international trade landscape creates significant difficulties for exporters, importers and shippers. One company dedicated to finding solutions is Descartes Systems Group. The company operates a global logistics network to help shippers, carriers and logistics providers navigate complex trade challenges. Chief executive officer Edward Ryan noted in July that supply chains face issues like military conflicts, trade route disruptions, and changing taxes and tariffs. To address this complexity, Descartes is investing in broader solutions for secure shipment management. These trade problems have boosted the company's business, with second quarter revenue rising to $163.4-million, a 14-per-cent increase from $143.4-million last year (all figures U.S.). Net income was $34.7-million, up from $28.1-million, in the second quarter of the 2024 fiscal year. Earnings per share on a diluted basis were 40 cents up from 32 cents last year.
