The Globe and Mail reports in its Wednesday, June 5, edition that GFL Environmental has enlisted JPMorgan to evaluate two buyout offers. The Globe's Tim Kiladze and Jameson Berkow writes that an unnamed source says one offer is for the entire business, while the other is specifically for its environmental services division. As of the market close on Tuesday, GFL is valued at $17.8-billion. To split the cost, a consortium of infrastructure funds and sovereign wealth funds have joined to make a bid. However, it is important to note that these discussions are still in the early stages and may not necessarily result in a transaction. Another consideration for GFL is to sell its environmental services division, which includes liquid waste management and soil remediation services, and utilize the proceeds to pay off debts or buy back shares. The potential buyer has indicated an offer of about 15 times the division's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. In 2023, the division reported an adjusted EBITDA of $383-million. GFL has lost $2.2-billion since the start of 2020. Debt load concerns have made GFL vulnerable to buyout offers in recent months. GFL declined to comment.
