The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition that GFL Environmental boss Patrick Dovigi acknowledged a series of shootings and arson attempts targeting the company, reversing his earlier stance that the incidents were unrelated. The Globe's Tim Kiladze and Robyn Doolittle write that Mr. Dovigi expressed hope that police investigations would quickly resolve the cases but emphasized that these incidents will not distract the company.
Mr. Dovigi had a different perspective in October after his Toronto home and that of GFL executive Ted Manziaris were shot at an hour apart. He confirmed that the shooting at his Rosedale house was an attempted robbery, with the suspect fleeing and firing shots at a security guard. Just over an hour later, Mr. Manziaris's house was shot at, but Mr. Dovigi denied any connection. The Globe reported a series of suspected arson attacks on GFL properties in Ontario this summer, including an incident where a GFL office north of Toronto was shot with 10 bullets overnight last week.
Toronto police believe the office-building shooting is linked to attacks on executives' homes, but spokesman Stephanie Sayer stated that no further details about the ongoing investigation will be released.
