The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that York Regional Police have arrested Brandon Morgan, 29, in connection with a shooting on June 1, 2024, at a Green Infrastructure Partners lot in Vaughan, Ont. The Globe's Robyn Doolittle and Tim Kiladze write that Mr. Morgan faces charges including reckless discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm despite a prohibition order. Mr. Morgan, a Mississauga resident, is in custody and will have a bail hearing on Wednesday. The incident involved a man firing at the facility and parked vehicles, there were no injuries. This shooting marked the beginning of several attacks against GFL Environmental and Green Infrastructure Partners over the following months.
A month after the Vaughan shooting, two more incidents occurred: Six dump GIP trucks were set on fire, followed by the burning of GIP construction equipment. GIP operates some units formerly operated within GFL.
In 2022, GIP also purchased Coco Paving, a family business run by
GFL. In late September, following summer incidents at GIP sites, a gunman shot at the Rosedale home of GFL founder Patrick Dovigi. An hour later, former GFL senior vice president Ted Manziaris's front door was hit by nine shots.
