The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday, July 4, edition that while RBC Dominion Securities analysts Sabahat Khan and Arthur Nagorny maintain a "favorable" long-term view on the North American waste industry, they reduced their second quarter and full-year forecast on Friday to reflect the impact of turbulent commodity and renewable identification number (RIN} price impacts across the group. The Globe's David Leeder writes in the Eye On Equities column that Mr. Khan and Mr. Nagorny say in a note: "While the waste space has benefitted from its positioning as a relative safe haven for most of H1/25, the majors have sold off over the past month or so as investors have shifted to a more 'risk on' positioning (i.e., market turbulence has subsided to some degree given additional clarity/positive developments around tariffs). More recently, concerns related to softer recycled commodity and RIN pricing on full-year 2025 outlooks have been the focus of investor discussions." Despite their modest forecast adjustments, the analysts kept "outperform" recommendations for GFL Environmental and Waste Connections with share targets of $56 and $221 (all figures U.S.). The averages on the Street are $53.28 and $212.87.
