The Globe and Mail reports in its Monday edition that Trump resistance is now map resistance. Globe columnist Shannon Proudfoot writes that the same day President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, MapQuest posted a simple, blunt message, "We're not changing it," sticking also with the Gulf of Mexico. And with that, the mapping company became a mascot of the resistance to Mr. Trump's chaotic and ego-driven leadership style. MapQuest's Doug Berger told The Globe that the response has been wildly enthusiastic, suggesting the company made the right call. The app had welcomed "hundreds of thousands of new users" over the weekend, and he noted that it had become the second-most popular navigation app in Apple's App Store. Two hours after we spoke, MapQuest leapfrogged Google Maps to take the No. 1 spot. (Google bent the knee and went along with Mr. Trump's edict.) MapQuest's joke was that they weren't changing the geographic names because they didn't know how to update their maps, a riff on the public's perception that no one works at the road-trip mainstay any more. The Los Angeles-headquartered company has 50 employees, and 40 million people use the app every month.
